Carmel Keane
Carmel Keane was born in 2000 in Galway, Ireland. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Strasbourg in 2022, followed by a Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique (DNSEP) from the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes in 2024. She has been an artist in residence at Bastion XIV since 2025.
An artist and writer, she develops a practice at the intersection of analogue photography, video, installation, and poetic writing. She approaches image and text as analytical tools that create a tension between visibility and erasure, exposure and protection. Her artistic research is rooted in sociological and feminist issues, engaging with questions of subjectivity, grief, and power structures. Her work explores how intimacy becomes a political space and how personal narratives can reveal collective dynamics.
She is currently working on a poetry collection titled Arte Survie as well as a feminist video installation project, Zone Grise.
